Help prevent loss of freshwater by detecting and reporting leaks in public water distribution networks, learn to save water, test your knowledge of this most precious resource by playing the Hydro Quiz and Watris game, and more.

In most countries, municipal water losses are between 20-70%. That is 20-70% of clean, treated water that leaks into streets and public spaces. due to accidental breaks in the municipal water distribution networks. This is not only a waste of money for the treatment of the water but it also seriously degrades public infrastructure. More importantly, the water we are losing due to such leak accidents is becoming scarcer due to global warming and population increase. So, what should we do to protect our precious water?
The Hydro Heroes Water Saving App enables citizens to report water leakages from their mobile phones directly to the local water company. This will reduce the response time to fix such leak accidents and reduce the volume of water loses. The App also includes learning modules on water conservation. It is like “Pokemon Go, but saving the world, one drop at a time”. The app is targeted at youth aged 14-35 but can be used by anyone to report leakages using mobile phones and geolocation. Games within the app can be used by all ages.

Features of the App include:
- Leak detection function to report leaks to the relevant company;
- Hydro Quiz and Watris Game;
- Augmented Reality for the Kura Box learning toolkit with information about the Kura Basin;
- Music player with shower timer for adding and playing your favorite songs to limit your shower duration;
- 360-degree videos of some of Azerbaijan’s freshwater basins;
- Water efficiency calculator;
- Access to online learning resources on water conservation.

The Hydro Heroes App was developed jointly by UNDP-GEF Kura II Project, International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA), Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Azersu JSC.
